Sunday Dinner

There are some memories that never fade. For me, one of those memories is Sunday dinner.

The photograph above reminds me of my grandfather Francesco, my grandmother Carmella, my uncle Salvatore, and my aunt Rosa gathered around a table that, on this particular Sunday, was unusually quiet. More often than not, Sunday dinner meant a house full of people. Brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins, grandparents, children underfoot, and friends or neighbors who happened to stop by all found a place at the table. It never mattered whether someone was Italian or not. If you arrived near dinnertime, you were handed a chair, a plate, and a glass of wine, and before long you were simply part of the family.

Those afternoons stretched for hours. We talked about our work, our businesses, our hopes, our worries, and the dreams we held for our children. We celebrated life's victories, shared one another's burdens, and gave thanks to the women whose love and skill filled the kitchen with unforgettable aromas, and to the men whose hard work throughout the week made those meals possible. Nobody hurried. Nobody watched the clock. We simply enjoyed being together.

The recipes in the Famiglia Cinquegranna Pantry Favorites are the foods that appeared on those tables generation after generation. They remind us that a great meal is about far more than what is served on the plate. It is about bringing people together, sharing what we have, and creating memories that will be told long after the last dish has been washed.

It is our sincere hope that these recipes will become part of your family's traditions, just as they have been part of ours for more than twenty generations. From our table to yours... buon appetito.
