Our Agricultural Philosophy
Organic
Our farm is an Organically Managed* operation and has been for the past 25 years.
* Organically managed means that we fully comply with all USDA NOP (National Organic Program) requirements but do not spend the money (annually) for organic certification.
Stewardship
We focus on thoughtful, proven methods of regenerative land use, water management and a respect for rural craft without pretending the past had all the answers.
Soil to Table
We are committed to the larger work of moving the consumer ever closer to our soil. Whether its Burgundy Truffles, our wines, or our spirits, we want to eliminate all non-value-added activities that have traditionally separated the consumers table from the farm. This makes the farm more profitable and the consumers cost significantly lower.
Applied Science
Successful farming comes from careful observation, good record keeping, frequent experimentation, and respect for the land. We apply the best practices of contemporary agricultural sciences that do not conflict with our commitment to regenerative and organic practices.
Value Added Agriculture
The small and family owned/operated farm used to be the backbone of American agriculture. We firmly believe that it should be and again can be. We have adopted and promote the concept of value-added agriculture, where the farm grows the raw materials and then, while still of the farm, processes those materials into higher value consumer focused products.
In our case we grow grapes and other fruits, Bloody Butcher corn and other grains, and use those crops to produce exceptional small batch wines and spirits sold directly to Indiana restaurants and adult consumers.
